I am deeply interested in Biomimicry, which is the process of learning about and from nature in order to transfer that knowledge and propose innovative solutions to human-related problems.

Currently, in collaboration with Prof. Karen De Clerck and textile engineers and materials scientists at UGent we are producing biomimetic/bioinspired functional membranes based on reptile eggshell structures and adaptations.

I also work with biologist and designer María Boto Ordóñez at KASK & Conservatorium, Gent to find new ways to impart structural coloration (inspired by bird colors) to different materials used in art projects.

Watch our discussion about structural coloration at the intersection between art and science here. Part of the lecture series of The Beauty Chair, PSL Université Paris.
